In his rookie year, Justin Medeiros took home a third-place finish at the 2020 CrossFit Games.
Medeiros says he’s learned a lot of lessons from his first Games experience and his biggest takeaway was seeing how his best efforts, in training and in competition, paid off.
Medeiros has been working with coach Adam Neiffer and says their relationship works well because they act like a team.
“He definitely wants it just as bad as I do,” Medeiros says of Neiffer. “I think that we push each other, and we want to get better every day.”
As he heads into the 2021 competitive season, Medeiros says he’s trying not to focus on the pressures that can come with being the third-fittest man on Earth.
“It’s definitely going to be different going into this year having some expectations,” he says, “but definitely doesn’t change anything I’m going to do — definitely going to work hard and work on my weaknesses.”
Growing up, Medeiros says he never pictured himself when he thought of CrossFit athletes standing on the podium. Now that he’s had an opportunity to soak it all in, he says he knows he can do better than his third-place finish.
“(Getting better) comes with working on my weaknesses,” he says. “My goal for this year is to beat me from last year.”
